‘Di Sarli’

The Greats of Tango Series

Regarded as one of the greats of tango Carlos Di Sarli (born Cayetano Di Sarli) was born in Bahia Blanca, Argentina January 7 1903 (died Jan 12, 1960) and became one of the most influential Tango figures in history.

As an Argentine tango musician, orchestra leader, composer and pianist Di Sarli wrote some of the most iconic and well-known tango music of any generation.  Di Sarli moved beyond the style of the guardia vieja of tango and Julio de Caro’s avant-garde, preferring to forge his own style without concession to the fashions of the day. While being influenced by Fresedo early on, he soon established his own way. A talented piano player, he directed his orchestra from behind his own instrument. His recordings do not feature significant instrumental solos; the bandoneóns at times carry the melody but essentially play a rhythmical, milonguero role. Only the violins stand out, playing a short solo or a counterpoint melody.

Artwork Details:

Bold and clean.  Di Sarli (The Greats of Tango series) is a perfect example of the artist’s vision for his tango art.  The artwork breaks the mould of characters and headshots in regular depictions of Tango artists.

When Di Sarli was only 13 he suffered an accident while working in his father’s gunsmith store in which he lost an eye. This accident would ultimately lead to Di Sarli wearing his famous dark glasses.

The dark glasses are all we need to know that this poster is all about Carlos Di Sarli.  We can celebrate him and his music with an image that is clean, bold and unique.

As one of the best sellers, Doni will be making this artwork available in various colourways as regular and limited editions.
